Swamplandia

Borrowing this title from the 2012 Nobel Prize Fiction candidate (a fiction prize was not awarded that year), Sharon created this petite portfolio finding the near-miss opportunity of the novel to be an appropriate namesake.

The images are from Lake Martin, a swamp, bird sanctuary and fisherman’s delight near Lafayette, Louisiana.

Because Sharon finds this part of the country to be so magical, mysterious and a little off-center, it draws her back time and again. Invariably she ends up photographing the same subjects over and over, but since she was shooting the Six Flags Amusement park with her toy camera, Sharon decided to use this unsophisticated equipment for a different perspective.
So far, so good.
